The kindness of strangers

The kindness of strangers

Glorious sunshine and much excitement in the air. It was National Tulip Day in Holland and the center of Old Amsterdam, Dam Square, was carpeted with tulips grown in crates and arranged with artistry and bold color.

Viewing began at noon and at 1pm people were invited to cut their own bouquets to take home. People thronged the square with their smiles brightening the world almost as much as the flowers.

Another example of the kindness of strangers—in my expanding list of experiences—includes the quite handsome guy standing beside me in the crowd. When I realized I had forgotten my phone, he happily emailed me his photos, which I am sharing here.

Sally Uhlmann’s passion for cooking led her to publish a memoir-style cookbook, “Just Cook with Sally.” She splits her time between the States and her farmhouse in Cortona, Italy, when she is not traveling the world. Sally cooks, develops recipes, and writes stories—mostly about the intersection of food, travel, and her life.
